The Port of Maputo hosted a blood donation action on the 14th of June coordinated by the US Embassy in Maputo and the US naval ship Swift which visited Maputo on a seven day stay. Other actions organized by the US Marines were the distribution of medicines to Zimbabwe, goods to two orphanages in Maputo and Katembe, as well as helping in building a few infrastructures in these two places.
During their stay, US marines from the Swift ship also ran a short training program for about two dozen of their Mozambicans counterparts. Officers from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) were also be involved in exchanging information with a team from MPDC.
This was the ship’s second visit to Maputo, having visited previously in February 2010.
