The 1st new build tug “BULANI”, specifically designed for operations at the Port of Maputo, was delivered to P&O Maritime – the international company to whom the maritime services of the Port of Maputo are outsourced to – on 11th October. Three days after, this tug boat departed from Tuzla. The route to Maputo will be via Las Palmas and Walvis Bay expecting to arrive in Maputo by the end of November, if the weather permits and if all goes well.
This purchase operation represents a part of a series of investments which P&O Maritime has been doing since the beginning of the contract between P&OM and MPDC. The contract signed in September 2012 between MPDC and this international entity, has the duration of 10 years, but may be extended for an equal period. The acquisition of a new fleet of vessels and training for all staff which belonged to MPDC, are also covered under this contract.
