On the 28th of August, at the official inauguration cerimony of FACIM (International Fair of Mozambique), MPDC received an award for being the Biggest Investor in the Infrastructure area in Mozambique during the period 2012-2016.
The award was attributed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and given by the Minister of Transports and Communications, Carlos Mesquita. The cerimony had the presence of HE Filipe Jacinto Nyusi President of the Republic of Mozambique.
The Port of Maputo went through an enormous transformation in the last 5 years, under the developments of the port’s Masterplan. The biggest infrastructure milestones were the two deepening channel dredging (the first in 2011 and the last in 2016), the construction of an intermodal container depot terminal and the expansion of four terminals (car terminal, ferro terminal, Matola coal terminal and the container terminal), as well as the construction of new warehouses, rehabilitation of old ones, berth rehabilitation, constructions of road and rail accesses, etc. The total investment forecasted by the Masterplan is of 2 billion US dollars, of which more than 800 million have already been invested. The Port of Maputo expects to handle 30 million tons until 2033, the end of the concession period.
