It was held on the 19th of April, in Indy Village Congress SPA, in Maputo, the second edition of the Port Maputo’s annual conference, with the theme “Port Maputo’s Expansion Plans, Logistics Solutions and the Port’s connectivity to international markets”. About 300 people attended the conference, amongst clients, port users, navigation and shipping agents, government institutions, etc.
Like last year, the event was officially opened by His Excellency The Prime-Minister of the Republic of Mozambique Aires Ali. Aires Ali highlighted “the various corporate achievements of the Maputo Port Development Company and its partners.” “The Port is today more financially robust, more competitie and with a swift answer to its clients’ legitimate issues”, he affirmed.
During his speech, the Prime-Minister challenged all intervenients in the transport and logistical network to value the investments that benefit the national and regional economies. “It’s fundamental that the rail sector mobilizes logistical resources and infrastructures to assure the transport of cargo volumes that will be handled in the Port”, he stressed.
“The cargo potential in the region is enormous and the logistical needs for its transport are even bigger, and so we have to get the most out of this unique opportunity that the market is presenting to us”, highligted Aires Ali. All the presentations focused, indeed, the fact that the correct and sustainable expansion of the port has direct implications in the Mozambican economy as a whole.
Presentations were also made by Cleopatra Shiceka, of the Transnet Freight and Rail, Rosário Mualeia, Chaiman of the National Railway and Ports Company CFM, Daniel Tovela, Regional Director of the Customs South Region, Camilo Abdul, MPDC’s Chief Finance Officer and Ravi Bugga, from IFC.
The Minister of Transports and Communications, Paulo Zucula, made the closing notes and challenged MPDC to reach the target of 50 million tones earlier than the established 2020.
