On 18 August 2013, MPDC achieved a milestone for the highest volume of Iron Ore being loaded onto a vessel with 56 266 tons. The previous record was 54 973 tons loaded in in April this year.
During this operation, there was another highlight: the 1 000th train for 2013 was offloaded carrying cargo from Swaziland to Maputo.
The Iron ore from Swaziland has been exported from the Port of Maputo since December 2011. It is expected that during next month the export volume for Iron ore from Swaziland for 2013 will exceed 1 million tons . MPDC is expecting to handle approximately 1.2m tons by the end December 2013.
